COOP: Manini Connect and Seismic Monitoring
A Cooperative with a Great Tradition
Founded in 1973, Unicoop Florence is one of the seven major consumer cooperatives in the Coop system. With a long and fruitful history, the company is deeply rooted in the territory, counting on over one million and 200 thousand members, with more than 100 retail outlets.
Monitoring for Customer Safety
With a view to increasing attention to the safety of employees and customers, in 2019 Unicoop Florence decided to take advantage of the construction of its new supermarket in San Miniato Basso (PI) to experiment with the potential of Manini Connect, including all types of detection allowed by the integrated monitoring system, including the sensor package dedicated to seismic detection.
Precise Detection Protects Life and Business
During the night between December 8 and 9, 2019, a seismic sequence with an epicenter in the Scarperia and San Piero area reached a magnitude of 4.5 Mw. The Manini Connect system installed inside the supermarket detected the building’s response to dynamic accelerations, recording the relative displacements. The detected data were promptly analyzed by the Manini Service engineering team, comparing the recorded values with the accelerations expected according to the project. The processed values were found not to exceed the operating limit threshold, and the client, who was on alert, was informed that they could continue regular activity in total safety without having to stop. This resulted in significant savings in terms of both time and costs.
