EARTHQUAKE in UMBERTIDE on 3/9: REAL-TIME DAMAGE DIAGNOSIS FOR INDUSTRIAL PREFABRICATED STRUCTURES WITH MANINI CONNECT
MANINI PREFABBRICATI’s predictive and scheduled maintenance technology, through its MANINI CONNECT installed on buildings, captures risk in real-time and alerts specialized emergency response
Assisi, March 10, 2023 – Unfortunately, the Umbrian territory recorded a new seismic sequence yesterday, March 9, with an epicenter in Umbertide (PG) of magnitude 4.4.
While the morphology of the territory has necessarily led local inhabitants to a bitter familiarity with seismic events, MANINI PREFABBRICATI‘s technology allows entrepreneurs who have installed MANINI CONNECT on their industrial warehouse to have an instantaneous picture of any damage caused by the event to the structure, the level of residual risk, and to automatically alert specialized maintenance intervention by MANINI SERVICE.
The communication flow with the company in the event of a seismic event:
- The installed MANINI CONNECT devices detect seismic movement in real-time
- Clients are contacted by phone by MANINI SERVICE (Control Room active 365 days-24/7)
- The detected data is collected, analyzed, and promptly compared to data disseminated by the national accelerometric network
- Each MANINI Client is sent a seismic event report showing peak values of dynamic accelerations of the building compared to the SLO (Operational Limit State) design threshold and an up-to-date, detailed plan with readings from pillars equipped with accelerometers and inclinometers for seismic monitoring.
EXAMPLE of INFORMATION received by the Client:
Regarding the seismic sequence recorded in the afternoon of 03/09/2023, with epicenter in Umbertide (PG) and magnitude MI 4.4, at a depth of 10 km, it is highlighted that the Manini Connect system detected acceleration levels that did NOT exceed the operational limit thresholds prescribed by regulations for your property.
From the diagrams of recorded accelerations, it can be seen that the peak values are above the alert threshold, set at 0.06 g, but below the SLO threshold.
It is specified that, based on the modeling carried out in accordance with current regulations (NTC 2018), the SLO (Operational Limit State) threshold for your building is:
– HORIZONTAL SLO ag/g = 0.249
– VERTICAL SLO ag/g = 0.058
CONCLUSIONS:
From the analyses carried out, it emerged that the measured accelerations were below the threshold prescribed by current regulations in the SLO context. Simulating today’s seismic event in our calculation models, based on the accelerations recorded by the Manini Connect Monitoring System, your building’s behavior was consistent with numerical predictions, recording maximum displacements at the top of about 4 cm.
This example of technological advancement in service of environmental safety makes MANINI PREFABBRICATI particularly proud, as stated by its Head of the Service Division, Eng. Salvatore Romano. “With great satisfaction, once again, we were able to intervene promptly and reassure all our customers thanks to the splendid work carried out by the MANINI SERVICE Division, supported by the innovative MANINI CONNECT active monitoring system for prefabricated structures. Unfortunately, we are not able to predict or eliminate seismic events, but we are able to accurately map the industrial assets of our local entrepreneurs and be by their side in real-time for choices and decisions that impact people’s lives as well as workplace maintenance.”
